Leanne and Dan Fridd, the owners of Bookbugs and Dragon Tales, revealed how the actor donated $7500 to keep the store open, as well as widespread free publicity.

‘It’s incredible what he’s done because he’s not just given the money, but he’s given his name and the ensuing media attention that we’ve managed to get because of it,’ Dan said on Channel Nine’s Today Show.

Dan added: ‘We know this isn’t the first time he’s done something like this to change people’s lives. He’s not just changed our lives, he’s changed the children of Norwich’s lives and the people we can reach. ‘

The academy award winning actor has a history of generosity, once donating $200,000 to a struggling primary school near his home in rural Australia.

The money went towards an $800,000 project to construct a swimming pool at the school.

Russell’s donation came not long after a pupil had drowned at the nearby Coffs Harbor beach in 2001. It was reported that he felt the pool would help students become better swimmers and improve their water safety.

On another occasion, during location filming of Cinderella Man, he made a donation to a Jewish primary school after their library was damaged by anti-Semitic targeters.

The amount of his donation was not disclosed.
